Installing Advertised Programs over a Remote Access Connection
If you are accessing the network using remote access (RAS, VPN, iPass, etc.), you need to decide if you want to receive an advertised software package.
Follow the steps below to determine the approximate download time:
Determine your dial up connection speed.
Next you need to know how large the package is that you are receiving. To determine the size of the package you are receiving, follow the steps below to view the package Properties:
Click Start, Settings, Control Panel.
Double-click on Run Advertised Programs.
Highlight the program you want to install, and click Properties.
On the "Advanced" tab, the "Estimated disk space:" entry will show the size of the package to be installed. Use the Remote Installation download times chart, below, to decide if you want to install the software package.)
For example, if the software package is 20 MB in size and you have 256K VPN connection, it would take approximately 10 minutes 20 sec (20 x 31 sec) to download.
If you decide to install the package at this time, click Run.
