AntiVirus - PeopleScan
NOTE: Starting with Symantec AntiVirus version 8.1.1, the automatic weekly scan (called "PeopleScan") of your machine will no longer be needed because File System Realtime Protection has been implemented with the new version.
PeopleScan is the scheduled AntiVirus scan that runs on all PeopleSoft workstations at a particular time on a regular schedule. When the PeopleScan runs on your PeopleSoft machine, you will see the PeopleScan screen appear and you will see that the scan is running because the small hard drive icon will spin:

You will notice a performance drop-off on your machine during the scan. You can change the scheduled time, but it is extremely important that you not turn off the scan, nor decrease its frequency. Weekly scans are a good way of keeping viruses off your machine and off the PeopleSoft network. You can change the schedule to match your work habits so that the scan runs when you are not working on the machine; for example, you might schedule the scan to run while you are in a regular meeting or at lunch. The default schedule was chosen as 12:00 noon on Mondays since many people take lunch around noon.

Note: The PeopleScan does not run on machines with Symantec AntiVirus version 8.1.1, so the information below is not applicable to those machines.
You may be using your machine on Mondays at noon, or you know your machine will not be turned on at that time (the machine must be powered up to run a virus scan). To change the schedule to better fit your needs, follow these steps:
Click on Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition (or Symantec Client Security), and then Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition (or Symantec AntiVirus Client).
The AntiVirus screen appears. On the left side of the screen, click on the plus sign (+) next to Scheduled Scans.
When that section opens, click once on PeopleScan.
Click on the E dit... button on the right side of the screen.
The Scan screen appears. Click on the Schedule tab.
Make sure you choose a day and time when you are sure your machine will be powered up. The scan cannot run if the machine is not turned on. It will run the next time you power up the machine, but the timing may interfere with work you are trying to do.
When your changes are complete, click the OK button.
Your PeopleScan should run as you have specified.

PeopleScan screen doesn't close down when scan is complete
Note: The PeopleScan does not run on machines with Symantec AntiVirus version 8.1.1, so the information below is not applicable to those machines.
It is advisable to let the PeopleScan screen remain up while the scan is scanning so that you know it is running. You can choose to have the PeopleScan screen close when the scan is complete. If a virus is detected, an additional screen will appear; choosing to close down the PeopleScan screen when the scan is complete will not affect the screen showing a virus that is detected.
To choose to have the PeopleScan window close down when PeopleScan has finished running, follow these steps:
Click on Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition (or Symantec Client Security), and then Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition (or Symantec AntiVirus Client).
On the left side of the screen, click on the plus sign next to "Scheduled Scans".
Under Scheduled Scans, click on PeopleScan.
Click on the E dit... button.
Click on the Options... button.
Click on the Adva nced button (top right-hand corner of the screen).
Next time the PeopleScan finishes, the PeopleScan window should no longer appear on your screen.
