AntiVirus LiveUpdates

Document number: 15039

The AntiVirus Live Updates feature provides the latest virus definition files for fighting the most current viruses. There are several ways that your machine will check for updates. What your machine does to get those updates depends on the version you are currently running (see Eureka! document 15380 — How to find out which version of AntiVirus is installed on your machine.) Click on the version you are currently running on your machine:

Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition version 7.61
Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition version 8.0.1

Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition version 8.1.1

You may run a manual LiveUpdate by clicking on the LiveUpdate button on the main screen of your AntiVirus software. You may also click on that button to check to see if you have the latest virus definitions. Follow the onscreen instructions. Just click Next at each screen until you get a Finish button.

It is advisable to use the Live Update button on the main screen of the software rather than going to the Symantec site and choosing the update manually. If you are updating your virus definitions in response to a virus alert, or because you believe you may have become infected, please check Eureka! document 19022 — Current worm or virus attack for important specific instructions.

Version 7.61 or version 8.0.1

By default, your machine is set up to check for updates every time you log on properly to the network. Updates are provided via SMS on a regular basis when you are logged onto your machine on the network. For instructions on how to tell what virus definitions you currently have in your AntiVirus software, see Eureka! document 15156 — How to tell what virus definitions you have.

Version 8.1.1

By default, your machine is set up to check for updates with a PeopleSoft "Parent Server" when you log onto the network. For instructions on how to tell what virus definitions you currently have in your AntiVirus software, see Eureka! document 15156 — How to tell what virus definitions you have.

To run LiveUpdates manually, click on the LiveUpdates button on the main page. After the LiveUpdate runs, you may have to close and relaunch the software to see that the new definitions are there. If you are unable to click on the button, you may open a NorthStar ticket to report the problem.
