PKZIP appears in its own group on Start menu and no utilities group

Document number: 15099

The difficulty you are experiencing is that PKZIP is appearing in its own group on the Start, Programs menu and you do not have a Utilities group on Start, Programs. It's possible that you have a Utilities group, but there is only one application in it - Adobe Acrobat Reader. Note that the other utility software has not been removed from your machine.

Note: This problem did not occur as a result of the general delivery of PeopleNet Update #58. This problem only occurred on a few machines.

To solve this, you need to apply the fix provided in the Software Library. Follow these steps:

  1. Make sure you have a valid P: drive mapped.
  2. Open Lotus Notes, then open the Software Library by clicking the bookmark link.
  3. Click the Standard Software Package Installs icon.

  4. Scroll down until you see the entry PKZip file compression utility, ZIP, PKWare and double-click on it to open it.

  5. Scroll down until you see the button labeled Fix "no, no, BAD dog" pkzip package errors.

  6. Click on the button once.

  7. WAIT. There will be no windows that appear and you will not need to reboot. Wait about one minute; you may need to wait slightly longer over RAS.

When you click your Start, Programs menu, you should see the Utilities group again. PKZIP and other utilities, include SnagIt and WinVNC should all be in that group.
