Default directory for Microsoft Excel 97 spreadsheets

Document number: 15109

The default file directory for opening and saving your Microsoft Excel 97 spreadsheets is c:\User\Excel. Whenever you open or save a spreadsheet, this is the directory in which Microsoft Excel 97 will look first.

You may change the default directory if you wish. However, be aware that PeopleSoft occasionally puts templates or other shared files into the default directory for general use by PeoplePeople.

To change the default directory to another one, follow these steps:

  1. Open a spreadsheet.

  2. Click on the T ools menu and then on O ptions...

  3. Click on the General tab.

  4. In the D efault file location: field type in the directory you would like to use as your default. For example, c:\user\admin.

    • Make sure the directory you choose already exists.

    • If you specify a network drive as your default directory and the network is unavailable when you try to open a spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel 97, Excel 97 will look in c:\My Documents for files. You can navigate to another directory from there.

  5. Click OK.

Your default drive and directory for opening and saving files is changed.
