How to change user name for Microsoft Word documents

Document number: 15116

A default name is used for Microsoft Office installations at PeopleSoft. This name appears when you view the properties of a document (under Propert ies on the File menu). Also, if you have a document open on a shared drive, a name appears as using the document when others try to access it. You may wish to change this name to yours. The first time you launch an Office 2000 application, you may be prompted to enter your name and initials.

Once you change your user name in one Microsoft Office application, your user name will change in all the applications in which you can specify a user name (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint). The name on the screen that appears briefly when you launch the application will also change. However, there is more information in the Microsoft Word user information setup, and you should make the changes here.

To change the user name, in Microsoft Word, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Tools menu, and then on Options....

  2. Click on the User Information tab.

  3. Replace the contents of the Name: field with your name as you wish it to appear. Add your initials to the Initials: field as well.

  4. In the Mailing address: field, fill in the return address as you wish it to appear on envelopes. Include your name and/or your company name in this field if you wish them to be part of the address.

  5. Click on OK.

All documents created after the user information change should reflect your name change.

For more information about changing your name in other applications, see the Eureka! name change document — How to request a name change for various applications at PeopleSoft.
