Note: An Excel 2000 spreadsheet can be read by Excel 97 without a specific conversion being done. Later versions of Excel can always read earlier versions of Excel spreadsheets.

To save a Excel spreadsheet for an earlier version of Excel, follow these steps:

1. Click on the F ile menu, then on Save A s...

2. Choose a directory in which to save the spreadsheet.

3. In the File name: field, fill in the name of the file.

4. Make an appropriate choice in the Save as type: drop-down list.
   • Remember, Excel 97 users can read Excel 2000 spreadsheets without any special conversion, and vice versa.
