Number of pages incorrect in Microsoft Word field

The difficulty you are experiencing is the number of pages in your Microsoft Word 97 document footer does not display correctly. The number does not update as the number of pages in your document changes. This is a known bug in Word 97.

When you print the document, the number of pages should come out fine because the field that contains the number of pages updates automatically before printing. However, as soon as you close the document, the number of pages reverts to the incorrect number.

To change the number of pages field so that it will show the current number of pages, you will need to delete the field and insert it again. If the number of pages in your document changes often as you are working on it, you may need to delete and reinsert the field more than once. This problem does not occur in Microsoft Word 2000.
