The difficulty you are experiencing is that in Microsoft Word 2000, an icon is showing up in your Windows task bar for every Word 2000 document you open (usually at the bottom of your screen):

A new Word window appears with every document you open. Also, if you have several Word documents open, you cannot close all your documents at the same time by clicking on the "x" at the top right-hand corner of the Word screen - you must close each document separately. However, Task Manager shows only one instance of Winword.exe running.

This is a feature of Microsoft Word 2000. You cannot turn this option off in Word 2000. You can turn off the option in Excel 2000 and PowerPoint 2000. There may be some third party "fixes" available for this issue. Do NOT install these fixes (macros, templates, files, etc.) on your PeopleSoft machine. Besides risking a conflict with PeopleSoft-issued templates and files, you run the risk of infection from unprotected sites and webpages. If you install any of these "fixes", you cannot be supported regarding problems with applications after this "fix" is installed. Your machine will have to be rebuilt.
