Multiple sessions of Excel 2000 or PowerPoint 2000 showing in Windows taskbar

Document number: 15151

The difficulty you are experiencing is that in Microsoft Excel 2000 or PowerPoint 2000, an icon is showing up in your Windows task bar for every Excel or PowerPoint file you open (usually at the bottom of your screen):

To solve this, you need to change an option in the program. Follow these steps:

  1. Launch Excel 2000 or PowerPoint 2000.
  2. Click on Tools and then on Options...
  3. On the View tab, in the top section ( Show), click in the box next to Windows in Taskbar so that no checkmark appears in the box.
  4. Click OK.

The extra sessions should no longer appear in your Windows taskbar. You may need to close and relaunch the application for the change to take effect.

Note: This problem CANNOT be solved in Word 2000. See Eureka! document 15150 — Multiple sessions of Word 2000 showing in Windows taskbar for more information.
