The difficulty you are experiencing is that your Microsoft Word documents are showing paragraph and other formatting symbols.

First, try clicking on this icon on your Word toolbar: .

If you are showing JUST paragraph symbols ( ) , try clicking on the View, then on make sure a checkmark does NOT appear next to Show Paragraph Marks.

If the symbols still do not turn off, you need to change your formatting settings:

1. Click on the Tools menu, then on Options and then on the View tab.

2. Under the Formatting marks section, make sure a checkmark does not appear next to All.

   • If any other choices in this section are checked, make sure checkmarks appear only next to marks you want to see.

3. Click OK.

The unwanted paragraph markings and other formatting markings will no longer appear.
