Connected software backs up the following files by default:
- ALL files in your
C:\User folder and all subfolders under C:\User. You should make it a habit to save important data files under the c:\user folder structure.
- Data files include *.doc, *.xls, *.ppt, *.mdb, *.htm, *.txt or other files that contain data you wish to back up for retrieval.
-
Non data files:
- Operating system-related files (*.dll files, for example). It is often better to rebuild your machine than try to restore an operating system file such as a *.DLL file. Restoring the file may make a problem worse. These files are often very large and can quickly fill up your quota of transferable files. See Eureka! document
15291 — 750 MB quota on Connected software backups.
- Application files (*.exe files for example). It is much better to reinstall an application than try to restore it from a backup. There are often registry changes that need to take place that restoring a file will not do.
- Other
nondata files that should not be backed up:
- Important Lotus Notes files, including your current ID, standard archive mail files you create, and your notes.ini file. The following is a list of those files:
- c:\apps\notes\data\bookmark.nsf
- c:\apps\notes\data\names.nsf
- c:\apps\notes\data\desktop5.dsk
- c:\apps\notes\data\
name.id (all ID files in this folder are backed up)
- c:\apps\notes\data\mail
or archive\a_
yourname.nsf - your mail archive
-
notes.ini
- Important Microsoft Office files:
- c:\apps\Office2000\Templates\PeopleSoft Templates\Normal.dot (Word template)
- c:\documents and settings\
username\application data\microsoft\excel\*.xlb (Excel toolbars)
-
c:\documents and Settings\
username\Application Data\Microsoft\proof|custom.dic (personal dictionary for MS Office)
-
NOTE: to see the
Application Data folder, you may have to set up your Folder settings so that "hidden" folders and files can be seen - see Eureka! document
69051 — How to Use Windows Explorer and My Computer - Hidden files.
- Important Connected software configuration files in the c:\program files\connected folder
- config.ini
- rules.dat
-
tdates.db
- Internet Explorer Favorites in c:\documents and settings\
username\favorites folder
You can manually select files for backup. See Eureka! document
