How to change the default font in Lotus Notes

Document number: 16129

The default font in Lotus Notes is helvetica. When new documents are composed in a database or a new message is created or replied to in the mail file, the font used will be helvetica. The default font can be changed to another font although some functionality may be lost such as when trying to create sections or modify the font properties.

To change the default font:

  1. Select F ile from the menu bar.

  2. Select Pre ferences from the drop down menu and select U ser Preferences... from the next drop down menu.

  3. Press the Default Fonts... button in the Display Options section.

  4. Change the Default Serif font and Default Sans Serif font by clicking the down arrow and single clicking on the new font desired.

  5. Click OK to close the Default Fonts window and then click OK to close the User Preferences window.

The default font has now been changed to the new one selected. New documents or e-mail messages and replies will now be created with the new font.

For information on how to increase the default font size, see Eureka! document 16128 — How to increase the font size in Lotus Notes. Depending on which new font has been selected, however, the font size may not be able to be increased.
