iNotes vs. WebMail interface when accessing iNotes Web Access mail file

Note: Lotus iNotes (Webmail) is currently in beta testing mode only and is not available to the general PeopleSoft population. The pilot is currently closed and is not being expanded to include additional users. Look for communications via OneVoice regarding iNotes (Webmail) in the future.

Depending on the browser that a user is trying to access their iNotes Web Access mail file, they may see one interface versus another. The iNotes interface is a feature-rich ActiveX driven interface that allows a similar experience to the user as far as functionality and usability. The WebMail interface will is Java driven and will automatically appear if the computer does not have a browser or operating system that iNotes supports. The WebMail interface works on many platforms, but it does not share the same features as the iNotes interface. WebMail can be faster on slower computers.

Although a user might be using a browser and operating system that iNotes supports, they may want to switch the interface to the WebMail one for faster access. To switch from the iNotes interface to the WebMail one, access the iNotes mail file per the standard access method. For additional information, see Eureka! document 16179 — How to access iNotes Web Access from the Internet. Once the mail file is open, the last part of the web address needs to be modified so the WebMail interface is selected.

After accessing the mail file with the iNotes interface, the address in the browser will appear as: https://webmail.peoplesoft.com/mail/file_name.nsf?OpenDatabase& ui=inotes

To switch to the WebMail interface, the ui=inotes must be changed to read ui=webmail. After switching, the address will appear as: https://webmail.peoplesoft.com/mail/file_name.nsf?OpenDatabase& ui=webmail

Modifying the ui will allow the user to switch back and forth between interfaces provided the computer has a supported browser and operating system.
