The spell check dictionary may be modified so that a language other than the default of English (United States) can be used for spell checking. To modify the spell check dictionary, the dictionary files must first be downloaded and then the user preference changed.

Before a different language can be selected for the spell checker to use, the dictionary files must be installed from the Notes Tips, Tricks and Tidbits database in Lotus Notes.

To install the dictionary files:

1. Open the Notes Tips, Tricks and Tidbits database in Lotus Notes by clicking here.
   
   
2. Click the document link in the Dictionary File column to the right on the language desired.
   
   
3. When the document for that language opens, double-click the .dic file and click the Detach... button.
   
   
4. Navigate to the c:\apps\notes\data directory and click the D etach button.
   
   Note: All data files must be copied/detached to the c:\apps\notes\data directory to function properly. The language files should not be detached to another location.

The dictionary has now been installed.

Once the dictionary files have been installed, the user preference can be changed to select the desired language for the spell checker.

To change the user preference:

1. Select F ile from the menu bar.
   
   
2. Select Pre ferences from the drop down list and select U ser Preferences... from the next drop down list.
   
   
3. Click the International icon on the left hand side of the window.
   
   
4. Click the Ch ange button next to the Spelling dictionary: item.
   
   
5. Scroll in the Change Spell Check Dictionary window and select the desired language.
   
   
6. Click OK to exit the spell check dictionary window and then click OK again to exit the preferences window.

The spell check dictionary has now been changed. When a spell check is done in the future, it will be done with the specified dictionary.
