Read marks reverting to unread in the Lotus Notes mail file
Internal and external factors come into play when read marks (black) revert back to unread (red) or vice versa. The Messaging and Groupware Services team has implemented a fix to correct software causes on the servers.
A read/unread mark discrepancy may still occur due to any of the following:
If the mail file is open at the time a server is rebooted or crashes.
If the mail file is open at the time of any application crash other than Notes.
If Notes is not closed nightly.
Notes should be closed nightly so that cached items might be cleared as
well as other issues that can be caused due to it being open for an extended
period of time.
If the mail file is accessed from more than one computer.
If you have multiple machines and do not use the same ID for each.
Technically, one machine could have one copy of the ID file and the other
machine could have an older copy with a different password. If accessing
the mail file on multiple machines, the same copy of the Notes ID should
be used on all of them.
