Copying/Moving documents and folders in Documentum

Document number: 18087

You can copy and move both documents and folders within Documentum. For information on copying and moving documents within Documentum, click here.

To copy or move folders within Documentum:

  1. Open Windows Explorer or Desktop Client and log in to the appropriate docbase. For more information, see Eureka! document 18081 — How to log in to Documentum.

  2. Navigate to the desired docbase and/or folder. For more information, see Eureka! document 18243 — How to browse or search in Documentum.

  3. Highlight the folder(s) you would like to copy. To select multiple folders, hold down the Shift key while clicking each additional folder.

  4. To move the folders, simply drag the folders to the new location.

  5. To copy the folders, hold down the Ctrl key while you drag the folders to the new location.

Unfortunately, making copies of folders in Documentum does not maintain the hierarchy of folders contained within other folders. These hierarchies must be recreated (via drag & drop) after you copy the folders.

Copying and moving documents

You may want to copy a document in Documentum to create another version or an archive. When you copy a file, you create a duplicate of that file. The original file will not be affected by any updates made to the copy. Use the standard Windows Copy and Paste commands.

When you move a document, you are removing it from its original location and placing it elsewhere. Use the standard Windows Cut and Paste commands.
