How to show / hide field codes
To turn on or off the field codes in a Microsoft Word document there is a keyboard shortcut. At the top of document, hold down the Alt key, and press the F9 key once.
If any text and the { } characters are replaced by other information, such as a graphic or a date, the text and the { } characters are a field code.
The elements in a field generate a field result, such as a current date. The field code includes the field characters { }, field type, and instructions. For example, the field code { INCLUDETEXT "c:\\Letters\\Letter to Richard.doc" } inserts the text of the file called "Letter to Richard.doc" in each place in the document where this field code appears.
