Converting a Contingent Worker to an FTE

Document number: 18161

The process of converting a contingent worker to a full time employee (FTE) is similar to hiring a new employee. The Manager should complete the following steps:

  1. If you are in the U.S. or Canada, contact your recruiter. Otherwise, contact your HR Business Partner for assistance. Your recruiter or HR Business Partner will initiate the standard offer/new hire process.

  2. Notify PrO Unlimited that you will be offering a position to one of their contractors. (See the PrO Contacts page on Planet PeopleSoft for contact information.) Provide the effective date of the change.

  3. PrO will follow up with the worker to schedule an exit interview, discuss benefits if applicable and collect the contractor's badge. PrO is then responsible for entering the termination into PeopleSoft's contingent termination database and processing the workers final payment.

If the contingent worker is from a staffing company, PrO will contact that agency to see if there are any conversion terms in the contract. Depending on the agency and the terms of the contract there may be a fee required for converting a staffing agency worker to an FTE.

  4. Submit a Northstar ticket requesting that the contingent worker's status be changed from contractor to FTE. This includes the employee's applications/systems access and badge.

The employee will need to attend new hire orientation.
