How to create or import a document in Documentum
There are two ways to place a new document in Documentum. You can either import an existing document or create a new document directly in Documentum. For information on creating a new document within Documentum, click here. For information on creating or importing a document using an integrated Microsoft Office application, click here.
To import (check in) an existing document or folder:
Log in to the appropriate docbase using Windows Explorer or Desktop Client. For more information, see Eureka! document 18081 — How to log in to Documentum.
Navigate to the docbase and directory to which you'd like to copy the file or folder. For more information, see Eureka! document 18243 — How to browse or search in Documentum.
In another Windows Explorer window, select the file(s) or folder you would like to import.
Drag the file(s) to the appropriate location in the Windows Explorer window displaying the desired location (cabinet and directory) in Documentum.
The Import dialog box will appear. Make any necessary changes, then click Import.
The document now resides in Documentum and is available to other Documentum users.For information on maintaining the document, see Eureka! document 18242 — How to review or edit a document in Documentum.
Follow the steps below to create a new document within Documentum:
Log in to the appropriate docbase using Windows Explorer or Desktop Client. For more information, see Eureka! document 18081 — How to log in to Documentum.
Navigate to the docbase and directory to which you'd like to copy the file or folder. For more information, see Eureka! document 18243 — How to browse or search in Documentum.
Select the File menu, then select New.
Specify the name of the new file and the document type. The document is now in the docbase but will remain locked until you check it in.
Make any necessary changes. Click the File menu, then select Check In.

Creating or importing a document using Integrations
From an integrated Microsoft Office application, such as Word, click the File menu.
Select the desired action, for example, select Check In to Docbase to copy an existing document into the docbase.
When prompted, select the appropriate Docbase and enter your User Name. This is the same as your network ID (usually your first initial and the first seven letters of your last name). It is case sensitive, and must be entered in lowercase letters.
Enter your Password. This is the same as your network password, and is also case sensitive.
