To determine which version of Internet Explorer you are using, including the encryption strength:
Open Internet Explorer.
From the toolbar click on Help.
Click on About Internet Explorer.
Does the encryption type (40 bit vs 128 bit) affect software performance on PeopleSoft machines?
No, the encyption type should not affect software performance on PeopleSoft machines. The encryption type only comes into play for secured server sites, e.g. those with URL's which start with https:// opposed to the standard http://. At this time all of our internal servers and the PeopleSoft product suite run as nonsecure (insecure) servers, so this has no effect on us. There are a few DLL's that are different, but the majority of the code is the same. The encryption type should not be changed unless there is a site that cannot be used otherwise. Legally, the 128-bit version is for use only in North America. It may not be left on machines going overseas, those machines must use the 40-bit encryption version. If your encryption type, or cipher strength, is 56 or 0 you will need to correct that as that indicates a problem. To determine your encryption type, click here.
