How to change your Internet Explorer search engine or customize your search settings

Document number: 19045

The default search engine for Internet Explorer is provided by Microsoft.  You might have chosen another search engine, or your search engine might have been changed without your permission.  You can try simply resetting the selection to your desired search engine.

Open Internet Explorer:

  1. Click on your Search button.

  2. At the top of the Search Panel, select Customize
If you don't see the selection look for >> and click on them to expand the selection.

  3. Change your search settings as desired.

  4. Click on OK.

Your search panel should now open to use the search settings you selected.

If you try this and the page gets reset to something you did not choose you may have picked up a problem application that installs its own tool bar, search page etc and trys to prevent you from making changes. To resolve this issue see Eureka! document 19036 — Home Page Setting Changes Unexpectedly, or You Cannot Change Your Home Page Setting
