ERROR: Can't run 16-bit ... program... Application is not supported...

The difficulty you are experiencing is the error messages Can't run 16-bit Windows program and This application is not supported by Microsoft Windows NT when trying to run 16-bit applications that used to run on your Windows NT machine before you installed Internet Explorer via a PeopleNet Update. The products positively identified as having problems are:

Decision Master
EssBase
Visio 4.1 (not 5.0)
ManagePro

To solve this, you need to reinstall certain DLL files that were overwritten by the Internet Explorer installation process. There is a Software Library entry with a button to help you do this. In the View by Package Name, click on OLE DLLs - Standard Set. More information about the problem and its fix is also available in that Software Library entry.

Using the Software Library from your Favorites portfolio:

Follow these steps to find the entry in the Software Library:

  1. Close down all applications but Lotus Notes.

  2. Open the Software Library by single clicking the icon on your Favorites.

  3. Select View from the menu bar.

  4. Select Workstation from the drop down menu and select B y Title from the next drop down menu.

  5. Scroll until you see the entry named OLE DLLs - Standard Set and single click to open it.

  6. Click the Load Consistent Set of OLE DLLs button.WinInstall may take a few minutes to finish installing.

  7. Reboot after the button finishes running and before testing your application.

 

The error should no longer appear.

Using the Software Library from your Lotus Notes workspace:

Follow these steps to find the entry in the Software Library:

  1. Close down all applications but Lotus Notes.

  2. Open the Software Library by double clicking the icon on your Lotus Notes workspace.

  3. Click on the Standard Software Package Installs icon.

  4. Click on By Package Name. (This is the default view.)

  5. Scroll until you see the entry named OLE DLLs - Standard Set and single click to open it.

  6. Click on the Load Consistent Set of OLE DLLs button. WinInstall may take a few minutes to finish installing.

  7. Reboot after the button finishes running and before testing your application.

     

The error should no longer appear.
