You may receive the error message below if either:

• Y ou are trying to launch NorthStar client from a machine that is registered to another user, or
• You have recently changed login accounts or domains for your network ID (i.e. after having a login name change, or changing from CORP to PEOPLESOFT)

This error message occurs because the NorthStar for Vantive application was designed to have its registry entries placed in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER section of the registry instead of the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE section. Each person who logs into the machine will receive their own version of the HKEY_CURRENT_USER registry tree.

There are two options to avoid this error:

• The owner of the machine logs onto the machine and the network first. Then the person who wishes to use NorthStar may launch NorthStar and log in.
• Install the NorthStar client application for each user who will be using the machine. The user MUST be an administrator on the machine to install NorthStar properly. To install NorthStar on the machine, follow these steps:

1. Open Lotus Notes, then open the Software Library by clicking the bookmark link.

• If you don't have the Software Library bookmark see Eureka! document 16250 — How to add the Software Library database link to Lotus Notes.

2. Click the Standard Software Package Installs icon.

3. Click By Package Name. This view will probably already be showing as it is the default view.

4. Scroll until you see the entry named Vantive Client 8.55 SP1 for NorthStar and double-click to open it.

5. Click on the NorthStar with Vantive Client 8.55 SP1 button to install the NorthStar client.

Note: Be sure that the user installing NorthStar client is the person who needs to access it. Once the application has been installed by that user, the error message should no longer be encountered.
