If you receive the Lotus Notes error message "Full text error from topic; see log for more information" it is because the full text index for the database on that specific server has become corrupt.

If you are receiving the error message when trying to perform a full text search on a database other than your mail file, access the database from another server and try a full text search. Each full text index is unique for every database on each server.

You should also contact Technical Support Operations so that a Lotus Notes Administrator can be alerted that the full text index is corrupt and will need to be reconstructed.   Let Technical Support Operations know the name of the Lotus Notes database and which server you are accessing the database from when you receive the error message.

Note: Because a full text index consumes a significant amount of disk space on a server, not all databases have a full text index created.

If you are receiving the error message when trying to perform a full text search on your mail file, you will need to delete the existing corrupt full text index and create a new one:

  1. Highlight your mail file icon on the Lotus Notes workspace.

  2. Select File from the menu bar.

  3. Select Database from the drop down menu and select Properties... from the next drop down menu.

  4. Click the Full Text tab.

  5. Click the Delete Index... button.

  6. A pop up window asking "Are you sure you want to delete the full text index for this database?" will appear. Click Yes and the corrupt index will be deleted.

  7. Click the Create Index... button to create a new index. Select the properties that you want to be able to search on and click OK. The server has been queued that a new index needs to be created.

  8. Once the new index has been created, you will be able to perform a full text index search on your mail file again.
