The Lotus Notes error message
"Database is corrupt — Cannot allocate space" may be received in two different situations:
-
A user is trying to send or forward and save, or move messages to folders in their own mail file:
The error is being received because the user has exceeded or will exceed, when saving a message, the mail file quota of 150 MB. It can be resolved by deleting or archiving documents and allowing the compact task to run so the file does not exceed the quota.
Automatic compacting runs nightly Sunday through Thursday on all mail servers. For additional information, see Eureka! document
15002 — Managing the Lotus Notes mail file.
NOTE: Sending and saving a message is a two-step process - the send process and the save process. The send process is actually functioning properly; therefore, sent messages are being delivered to the recipients. The save process is failing due to the size of the mail file which is what produces the error message.
-
A user is trying to send to someone else and receives a delivery failure:
If a delivery failure is received that says,
"Error delivering to (Recipient Name). Database is corrupt, cannot allocate space," contact Technical Support Operations
so that a Notes Administrator can look at the recipient's mail file and troubleshoot the issue.
