ERROR: Unable to find path to server OR ** The Notes server is not a known TCP/IP host
The Lotus Notes error messages "Unable to find path to server" or "The Notes server is not a known TCP/IP host" typically occur because a server is down, but can occur because someone is trying to access a database on a server that has been removed from production. To resolve the latter, the following steps must be done, in order:
Remove all bookmarks and icons for the database from the workspace.
Delete the Lotus Notes cache.
See
Eureka! document
16107 — How to delete the Lotus Notes cache.
All bookmark references and workspace icons for the database must be removed.
To remove database bookmarks:
Right mouse click on the database bookmark. It could be located on the bookmark bar or in one of the bookmark folders.
Select Re move Bookmark from the drop down list.
A dialog box will appear that says, "Are you sure you want to remove the bookmark 'Bookmark Name'?" where 'Bookmark Name' is the name of the bookmark (usually the name of the database). Click Y es.
Multiple bookmarks may exist for the same database. Be sure to check all bookmark folders and remove all bookmarks for the specific database by following steps 1-3 above.
Open the Databases bookmark folder (with the blue book) on the left hand side of your Lotus Notes screen. If you've moved the Workspace bookmark, open the bookmark folder where it's now located.
Click on the bookmark named Workspace and the workspace will open.
Find the icon for the database you were trying to access when the error appeared.
Single click on the database icon so that it's highlighted. The database title will be in the color blue.
Press the {Delete} key.
A pop up window that asks "Remove selected icon(s)?" will appear. Press Yes to remove the icon.
The database icon has now been removed from the workspace.
Before re-adding the icon to the workspace, the Notes cache should be deleted. For information on how to delete the Notes cache, see Eureka! document 16107 — How to delete the Lotus Notes cache.

After all database bookmarks and icons have been removed from the workspace and the Lotus Notes cache deleted, the database can be manually re-added to the workspace.
Note: The database must be re-added to the workspace manually from the server and not from the Domain Catalog to ensure the correct one is added.
To manually re-add the database to the workspace:
Select F ile from the menu bar.
Select D atabase from the drop down list and select O pen... from the next drop down list.
Enter the server name in the Server: window and click the O pen button.
Double click the folder that the database is located in and single click on the database to highlight it.
Click either B ookmark... to create a new bookmark to the database or click O pen to open it.
The database has now been re-added to the workspace.
