ERROR: Field: 'ControlToShow': Invalid UNID; UNID must be a 32-digit hex string

Document number: 26073

The Lotus Notes error Field: 'ControlToShow': Invalid UNID; UNID must be a 32-digit hex string occurs because the bookmark (Welcome) database has become corrupt. To resolve the error, a new bookmark (Welcome) database must be created.

To create a new bookmark (Welcome) database:

  1. Exit Lotus Notes.

  2. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the c:\apps\notes\data directory.

  3. Right mouse click on the bookmark.nsf file and select Rena me from the drop down list.

  4. Be sure that it is the bookmark .nsf file and NOT the bookmark .ntf selected for renaming.

  5. Rename the file to bookmarkold.nsf and close Windows Explorer.

  6. Launch Lotus Notes and a new bookmark (Welcome) database will be created. The error message should no longer appear.

Note: When the bookmark.nsf file is renamed, all existing bookmark links will be lost. When the new bookmark (Welcome) database is created, it may or may not contain the bookmarks a user previously had. In most cases, the bookmarks will need to be recreated. For additional information, see Eureka! document 12039 — How to create a bookmark in Lotus Notes.
