The message "Unable to open desktop file. Notes may have terminated abnormally in an earlier session. Please log off or shut down the operating system before running Notes again." indicates that another session of Lotus Notes was already initiated. This typically occurs when a user clicks the icon to launch Lotus Notes twice instead of single clicking on it. To close the message window, click the OK button. The first session of Notes will still be available for log on and use.
If the message is received when trying to launch Lotus Notes after it has crashed, the machine must be rebooted. Once the reboot is complete, Notes should successfully launch.
