Error 1452: REG Functions: Unable to open (or create) specified subkey. RegSetValue (reg key, "[ProductType]", "WinNT") WinBatch 32 99G WIL Version: 2.8bgt

Document number: 29007

On boot up you may get an error message similar to Error 1452: REG Functions: Unable to open (or create) specified subkey. RegSetValue (reg key, "[ProductType]", "WinNT") WinBatch 32 99G WIL Version: 2.8bgt . This error may occur if the person logging into the machine is not a designated administrator on the machine. Part of the log on process includes log on scripts that load various fixes and updates. Sometimes these require that the person logged in have administrative rights on the machine. In the PeopleSoft environment users will ordinarily be administrators on any machine that was issued to them. However, a user logging onto another users machine will not ordinarily have administrative rights.

If the machine useage is merely temporary you can just ignore the message. To resolve the problem a person who does have administrative rights (usually the person the machine was originally issued to) must log in and add the user as administrator. See 69064 — How to determine if you are an administrator on a machine and Eureka! document 69068 — How to add someone as an administrator on a machine.

At this time logging in as the user called "administrator" (known as local administrator) must be done by Technical Support Operations, or under their direction. If there is no other account available with administrator privileges the process will have to be done by, or under the guidance of, Technical Support Operations. You will need open a NorthStar ticket to make an appointment for service. Be sure to include your contact number. Describe the problem in detail, especially the steps you took to try to correct the problem. You will be contacted by the appropriate party. For more information on creating the NorthStar ticket, see Eureka! document 39068 — How to submit a computer or peripheral for repair.
