ERROR: The system can not log you on to this domain ....

Document number: 29034

During logon to the network you may receive the following error:  The system cannot log you on to this domain because the system's computer account in its primary domain is missing or the password on that account is incorrect. The most common cause of the problem is that the machine name was changed locally. The computer name should never be changed by end users as it usually results in denial of network access. The first step is to clear all memory and check network connections:

  1. Shutdown and power-off the machine.

  2. Remove and inspect the network cord or modem cord, depending upon how you are connected to the network.

  3. If the cord appears undamaged, reconnect it so you can connect to the network directly at log-on.

  4. Power-up.

  5. Pay particular attention to the log-on screen. Is your user name correct? Is the domain correct (usually should show as PEOPLESOFT)? Is your password correct?

  6. If you are remote try dialing-in from the log-on screen, instead of using VPN or other remote connection process.

If that does not correct the problem there are additional steps you can try with the assistance of Technical Support Operations. Call TSO or submit a NorthStar ticket, including the error message you are receiving, the steps you have tried, and the results.
