If IE closes unexpectedly without an error message or you click on a link in Internet Explorer and receive the following error message: The current operation could not be completed because an unexpected error has occurred. there may be a problem with one or more necessary files. When you are browsing a Web page, you may receive an error message similar to one of the following:

An error has occurred in the script on this page.
Line: line
Char: character
Error: Class not registered
-or-

On the Status Bar, you may receive the following message:
Done, but with error on page

If you double-click the Status Bar message, and then click Show Details, you receive the following error message:

An error has occurred in the script on this page.
Line: line
Char: character
Error: Class not registered

Other symptoms include: if when you click on a link either nothing happens, or you get a blank new window or you will see "About:blank" in the task bar.

First determine if others are having the same problem. This message can be a scripting error on the web page. If that is the problem notify the web page author.

If the problem is specific to your machine you may need to register or re-register the urlmon.dll.

To resolve this problem in Internet Explorer, follow these steps:

Quit all programs that are running.
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type regsvr32 /i urlmon.dll
Click OK.
When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.
If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2 through 5 replacing Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below:

Oleaut32.dll
Mshtml.dll
