How to turn off the Panel Close Alarm on the Toshiba Tecra

Document number: 39010

In the Toshiba Tecra closing the top of the machine when it is still powered up causes an alarm to go off.  The loud screech or beeping you hear when you close the top is the "Panel Close Alarm." To stop the machine from beeping you can turn the Panel Close Alarm off. Note: Deactivating the Panel Close Alarm increases the possibility that you will forget to turn off the machine before packing it up.

To turn of the Panel Close Alarm:

  1. Select Start, Settings

  2. Select Control Panel

  3. Double click on the HW Setup icon to open it.

  4. Click on the Sound Control Tab.

  5. Click on the Hardware Alarm tab.

  6. Make sure that the box next to Panel Close Alarm is CLEAR (no "X" in there). Your machine should no longer beep when you close it with the power on.

  7. Close the HW Setup menu by clicking on OK.

Once you have deactivated the Panel Close Alarm you will be able to close the top without it warning you that the machine is still on.
