How to Install a Jaz drive
Instructions for installing the Jaz Drive are for Toshiba laptops only. If you are trying to install a Jaz drive on a desktop contact Technical Support Operations for assistance. You must be an administrator on the machine to install the drive. If it is your machine then you should be an administrator. Installation on the Toshiba Portege 3110 or Tecra 8100 requires some extra steps. The process has not been fully tested and there is some risk that proceeding will cause problems ranging from minor to requiring a complete rebuild.

To install the Jaz drive on the Toshiba Tecra:
To install the Jaz Drive on the Portege 3110 or Tecra 8100.
To install the Jaz drive on the Toshiba Tecra:
Shut down and power off the laptop.
Do not insert or remove PCMCIA cards unless the machine is off.
If you are removing a card to make room be careful, the card may be hot.
Insert the Adaptec PCMCIA adapter (a plump credit card-sized silver card) into one of the available slots in your laptop. The end with lots of gold pins goes in first.
Plug the transformer into the power cord into the wall, and into the Jaz drive. Then use the cable to connect the Jaz drive and the SCSI card. All of the stuff only fits one way; don’t force it, but it will all go together.
Turn on your laptop and the JAZ drive. NT will bootup, and you can login as usual. Insert a Jaz disk into the Jaz drive.
Once the bootup stuff finishes, select Start, then Settings, then Control Panel.
Double-click on the SCSI Adapters icon to open it.
Click onto the Drivers tab, and press Add... button.
Under Manufacturers click once on " Adaptec" to select it. Under SCSI Adapter click once on the Adaptec SlimSCSI 16-bit PCMCIA SCSI Host Adapter entry to select it.
Click on OK.
You will get an " Insert Disk" message box asking for an NT Workstation CD. Click on OK.
You should get a " Files Needed" message box. At the bottom of that message in the Copy files from box type p:\build\ntfiles\i386 and then click OK.
Files will copy to your machine, and you'll then be asked to reboot. Reboot.
After NT boots up, you can go into Explorer, and view your JAZ drive. It should appear as Removable Disk.
The Jaz drive will usually receive the next available letter after your hard drive(s), but before your CD-ROM drive. It will often be drive D:, but it could be E:, F:, or anything else.
When you disconnect or turn off the Jaz drive local drives below it (like the CD-ROM) will "take back" the original letter they had before you installed the Jaz drive. If you don't have short cuts pointing to that location that should not cause a problem.
If you need to assign permanent drive letters so that drive letters for the CD-ROM etc always stay the same regardless of whether your JAZ drive is connected, see document 39016 — How to assign drives a permanent letter, More details on drive letter assignment problems.
When you have completed installation you should be able to back up selected files onto your Jaz drive.
Note: Your Jaz drive will only appear on your drives list if it was attached and powered up when you started your machine. If the Jaz drive is not attached and powered up when you start your machine you will receive a message that "One service or driver failed." It simply means that some device it expected to find (e.g. Jaz drive, serial mouse) was not attached to the machine on start up. Click OK and you can either work normally without attaching the device(s) or shut down, attach them and restart.

Warning: This package has not been fully tested. If you wish to proceed be sure your back-ups are current and that you have the time for a rebuild if that becomes necessary. If you proceed you will be part of the testing process. Contact Aaron Shephard at x42424 to report any problems. Reports of success are useful too.
Installing the Jaz Drive on the Portege 3110 or Tecra 8100 requires using "Card Wizard" which you can install from the Software Library. The Card Wizard package is only for Portege 3110's or Tecra 8100. Proceed at your own risk. Installing Card Wizard will probably cause a conflict with Advanced Power Management functions such as suspend and resume. You may lose the ability to use those functions. You may also see warning messages that may be annoying but won't hurt the function of your machine. You may also get errors that will hurt the function of the machine. We haven't experienced those problems, but since we know the testing is limited we are warning you about that possibility.
First close all open programs. This process will require a reboot of your system.
Open Lotus Notes, then open the Software Library by clicking the bookmark link.
You may need to look in your databases folder
for the Software library bookmark
If you don't have the Software Library bookmark see document 16250 — How to add the Software Library database link to Lotus Notes for instructions on installing the Software library bookmark.
Click the Standard Software Package Installs icon.
Click By Package Name. This view will probably already be showing as it is the default view.
Scroll until you see the entry CardWizard, SCSI, Jaz stuff and double click on it to open it.
Be sure to install first Picture Taker then the Adpetec driver, then Card Wizard.
