How to install IntelliSync for the Palm organizer.
Synchronizing software allows you to mirror information that you keep on your computer to your Palm. There are two components (1) the Palm Desktop (HotSync) and (2) Intellisync. This document covers both installations.
Installing the synchronizing software for your Palm Pilot on your desktop is fairly straightforward. In most cases you will be accepting the default and simply clicking the "Next" button. This is a long document, but it is not difficult. This document will provide you with some preliminary information then direct you to a page in the Software Library to install the necessary software. If you prefer you can skip directly to the install instructions.
Make sure you have your Palm and cradle available. Connect your cradle to the serial port of your machine, but leave the Palm out of the cradle until instructed to place it in the cradle. For the Palm V you should also have the cradle plugged into a power source.
If you have been using a mouse connected to the serial port of your NT machine you will not be able to continue using the mouse on that port. You will also need to disable the serial mouse or you will have conflicts with your cradle. For instructions on disabling the serial mouse see document 29003 — ERROR: Driver=SERMOUSE failed to load. If you have Windows 2000 it should be able to detect whether you have the serial mouse attached, or the Pilot cradle attached, so you so not need to disable the serial mouse on Windows 2000.
If you need to use an external mouse and an external keyboard you will need a Y-splitter for the round PS/2 port. If your manager approves you can order a Y splitter using NorthStar web. See document 75090 — How to order a Y-splitter.
Make sure the batteries in the Palm are fresh or fully charged.
If you have never used your Palm before, or if you have recently performed a hard reset, then turn on your Palm, digitize, and set the date and time before beginning. For more information see document 39051 — Starting with a never used Palm.
If you previously installed "EasySync" or other synchronizing software make sure you synchronize with HotSync before starting. If you have never used this kind of software with your Palm you can skip this step.
You will probably be required to restart your computer a least once during the install process. Before beginning save your work and close all open programs except Lotus Notes. You will have to close Lotus Notes after starting the install so be sure to finish and close all mail, databases etc.
Print the installation process to make it easier to keep track of the process. It is a longer process than usually provided, but it is not difficult.
Be sure to check with your manager before downloading the software as there is a departmental charge. As with the Palm Pilot itself, PeopleSoft provides only minimal support this software. You can also check what is available on http://www.palm.com/support/downloads/
Here is a summary of the process:
If you have previously installed "EasySync" you will be removing it from your desktop. You will also get instructions on removnig some files from your Palm. If you have never used your Palm before you can skip this step.
You will verify that if you have HotSync already installed that it is at least version 3.x. If you do not have HotSync already installed, or if it is a 2.x version or lower you will receive instructions to install the latest version of HotSync.
You will install IntelliSync and then configure the components that will be synchronized e.g. Date Book (Calendar), Mail, Address Book, and To-Do.
You will test your success by HotSyncing.
To install IntelliSync from the Software Library:
Open Lotus Notes, then open the Software Library by clicking the bookmark link.
You may need to look in your databases folder
for the Software library bookmark

If you don't have the Software Library bookmark see document 16250 — How to add the Software Library database link to Lotus Notes for instructions on installing the Software library bookmark.
Click the Standard Software Package Installs icon.
Click By Package Name. This view will probably already be showing as it is the default view.
Scroll until you see the entry Intellisync Gold 4.0 for Notes R5 and double click on it to open it.
Open the collapsed sections then print the entire document. You will find it easier to follow and return to the right place if you have the document printed.
When you are done shutdown and reboot your computer.
To synchronize place your Palm in the cradle and press the HotSync button. You can also synchronize using the HotSync icon in your system tray.
That should complete the installation of your IntelliSync software. That will allow you to synchronize entries you make via the Palm with your computer and vice versa.
