CD-R/W is not supported, but here is how to get started anyway

The IBM T-40 and T-41 come with CD writers but the CD-R/W function is not supported.. The software, IBM Record Now! also comes on your machine. Do not install other software for the function. Before using the function keep in mind the Acceptable Use Policy, and that your machine is for business purposes.

To copy data files from your machine to a CD:

You will need a blank, writable CD, or one previously formatted as writable.
Go to Start, Programs, IBM RecordNow!, RecordNow!
The first time you open the program you will get a registration screen. You should not register. The product is already licensed for your machine. Registering will only get you SPAM.
You may get a message that says "RecordNow used Windows Media Player to gather titles for songs on your music CDs, however, your version of Windows Media Player < version number> is not configured to support this feature. Would you like to learn how to configure Windows Media Player < version number> correctly?
It doesn't seem to matter which you choose. Certainly configuring for music is beyond the business purposes so I leave it to you to figure that one out.
Put the CD in the drive, close the CD holder.
From the home screen menu under Quick Start Links, select Data Disc.
The Data Disc file selection screen will open. You can drag the files from Windows Explorer, or you can browse for them.

"Save" does not mean save the files to the disc. "Save" means to write the list of files you have selected so far to a file, a "collection", so that you can later choose exactly that same group of files simply by opening the collection.

To put the files on the CD-W/R, click the Burn button.
A progress bar will appear while your files are being saved. Your disc will automatically be ejected so if you want to look at the disc or add more files you will have to push the holder closed again.
