How to use your laptop Targus combination lock
For your initial use of the lock you will need a screwdriver to reset the combination. Do not leave the combination on its default setting! Please keep in mind that this is effective against a quick snatch and grab, but all cable systems are readily cut. Use locked doors in addition to the cable whenever practicable.

Securing the lock to the computer
On one end of the locking mechanism is the reset screw. You will need a small flat head screwdriver to push in and turn that reset screw. Because the screw head is inset, neither a dime nor your fingernail are likely to work as a substitute screwdriver.
To reset the combination:
Turn the lock so you can see the combination window.

The default combination is 0000. Rotate the combination dials until all four windows show a 0.
On the end of the lock is a reset screw.

Using a small flat-head screwdriver or similar object,
push in and
rotate the reset screw 90 degrees clockwise so that the screw’s groove appears horizontal.
Using the dials, enter the new combination.
To save the new combination rotate the reset screw 90 degrees
counter-clockwise, back to its original vertical position.
Securing the cable to an object
To secure your computer you will need to find a stable and secure object to attach the cable. You will need to wrap the cable around something like legs or a handle.
Your lock has a cable with a loop on one end, and the lock attachment on the other.

Wrap the loop end of the cable around the selected stable object, then push the lock through the loop end.

When you pull the lock through you will have a slip loop around your secure object.

Securing the lock to the computer
On your machine locate the security lock slot where you will be attaching the lock.
Rotate the number dials on the lock until the correct numbers appear in the combination windows.
Press and hold the locking button to align the locking teeth.
Insert the locking teeth end of your computer lock into the computer’s lock slot and release the locking button.
Turn the dials of the lock so the combination is not showing.
