How to assign a default printer

Document number: 47013

Note: In order to have a default printer assigned, you must have at least one printer connection created on your machine. To see whether you have any printers created, click on Start, then Settings, then Printers. You should have a printer icon for at least one printer (other than one for "Active Touch Document" or "Fine Print 2000"). To map a printer, see Eureka! document 40010 — How to add printers.

The default printer indicates the printer that will be used for most print jobs. Some applications do not tell you which printer it is using to print; in those cases, the default printer is the one being used. If nothing prints from the printer you are expecting, check to see what your default printer is set at.

To check to see which printer is the default printer:

  1. Click on the Start menu, then on Settings, and then on Printers.

  2. Right-click on the icon for the printer you would like to use as your default.

  3. If the Set As De fault menu item has a check mark, that is the default printer.

  4. If the Set As De fault menu item is not checked for the printer you wish to use as the default, right-click on the icon for the printer you wish to use as the default and click on Set As De fault.

Your default printer is now set.
