Do you have a static IP address hard coded on your machine?
To determine whether you have a static IP address, click the operating system you are running and follow the detailed steps.
To find out if your machine has a static IP address:
Click the Start button, click Settings, then click Control Panel.
Double-click the Network icon.
Click the Protocols tab and highlight TCP/IP Protocol.
Click the Properties... button.
Look under the IP Address tab:
If the radio button for Specify an IP address is selected, your machine has a hard coded IP address and you have a static IP address.
If the radio button for Obtain an IP address from a DHCP server is selected, the IP address for your machine is not hard coded and you do not have a static IP address.
Click OK to exit the Microsoft TCP/IP Properties screen.
Click OK again to save your changes.

To find out if your machine has a static IP address:
Click the Start button, click Settings, then click Network and Dial-up Connections.
Choose Local Area Connection.
In the field C omponents checked are used by this connection:, click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) ONCE to highlight it (Do NOT uncheck the box next to this choice).
Click on the P roperties button while Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is highlighted.
If the radio button for Obtain an IP address automatically is selected, the IP address for your machine is not hard coded and you do not have a static IP address.
Click OK to exit the properties screen.
Click OK to exit the Local Area Connection Properties screen and save your changes.
