ERROR: User authentication failed

Document number: 54116

This error may occur while trying to logon using the Cisco VPN client software:

User authentication failed.

This error occurs when your user name or password (the combined PIN and displayed token code) that has been entered is incorrect, or not consistent with the authentication server's database. To resolve this error:

  1. Verify you are using the correct username. This is your network login name, which must be entered in lower case letters. (For example, Stephanie Foster would enter sfoster.)

  2. Verify you are using the correct password. This is your password (PIN) and your displayed token number. (For example, if your password is "orange" and the number displayed on your token is 299595, you would enter orange299595.)
    • If you are converting to the Cisco VPN software from the Nortel software, the PIN (in this example, orange) is the same PIN you used with Nortel in the "PIN" field.

If you are still unable to connect, your PIN may need to be reset. If none of these help your situation, you will need to contact Technical Support Operations .
