How to turn off the Cisco VPN stateful firewall

Document number: 54130

The Cisco VPN client includes a stateful firewall option, however, it is not used in the PeoleSoft implementation of Cisco VPN. As a result, this option should always be disabled (not checked). Your VPN connection is kept secure by settings on the Cisco VPN server, and you should not change the stateful firewall setting. (If the stateful firewall is enabled, you may be unable to access network resources, or be prevented from accessing your machine as a web server, using PC-Duo, etc.)

To verify the Cisco VPN stateful firewall is turned off, follow the steps shown below, if:

You are currently connected using VPN
You are not currently connected using VPN

You are currently connected using VPN

If you are currently connected to PeopleSoft over VPN, use these steps to turn off the Cisco VPN stateful firewall:

  1. Right-click on the padlock icon in the system tray. (When you hover over the icon, it displays the label "VPN Client - Connected"

  2. The second menu entry from the bottom reads "Stateful Firewall (Always On").

  3. This entry should not have a check mark to the left of this menu entry

  4. If it is checked, click on the menu entry to remove the check mark and disable the stateful firewall

  5. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to confirm the check mark is no longer visible
