Requesting an FTP account
FTP accounts grant access to certain directories on the FTP server. The accounts should be created only on a necessary and business basis. You must request a username and password (your network information will NOT work). ONLY PeoplePeople may have FTP accounts. Contractors, temporary employees, and customers may not have a PeopleSoft FTP account. For information the FTP account policies, click here.
To request an FTP account you must open a NorthStar ticket. Follow these steps:
Launch NorthStar and log in if necessary.
Click on the Log Service Ticket link on the left side of the screen.
If you are a NorthStar Technician using NorthStar client, the ticket should be classified as: Service Area: Network Security, Service Type: FTP; Service Detail: New Access. Otherwise, follow the steps below.
Verify the contact information and click Next.
Choose Other Service Request.
For the question What type of problem are you having? choose Network.
Enter your Operating System information and connectivity information.
In the Subject line, type in Need FTP account.
Enter the following information in the Description field:
Account manager's phone number:
You will be contacted by the FTP administrator with your password information. Please do NOT lose the password information, as it is very difficult to administer password changes. T he user name and password should be known ONLY by the people using it - please do not share this information out.
Once you are notified that the account has been created, you should have access to the FTP server.
All users have "anonymous" access to the FTP server and do not have to be issued a specific account, but the access is restricted to certain areas of the server. For more information on accessing the account as an anonymous user, see Eureka! document 55035 — Using the PeopleSoft FTP server.
Contractors and Temps cannot have FTP accounts or folders.
The Use r ID and password should be known ONLY by the person using it.
Special access can be created based on individual requirements. Those requirements must be discussed with the FTP administrator.
Owners should delete files that are no longer needed.
