Area code dials in PS RAS Connection Manager
Note: The legacy RAS (dial-up networking) and PeopleSoft RAS Connection Manager (also known as PSRC or PSRCM) are in the process of being retired. To standardize dial-up access, the integrated PeopleSoft company is deploying iPass and VPN as the dial-up solution. For more information, see Eureka! document 54040 — iPass Frequently Asked Questions.
(U.S. users only) The difficulty you are experiencing is that when you use PS RAS Connection Manager in the United States, an area code comes up along with the number when the number is actually dialing (note that the whole number always displays in PS RAS Connection Manager in the PeopleSoft local number: field, but that is not necessarily the number that dials). There are a few possible causes for this:
Make sure you have entered the correct Area code and Phone number in the appropriate fields.
In some metropolitan areas in the United States, an area code "overlay" system has been implemented. In such areas, users may be required to use 10-digit dialing to access phone numbers. PS RAS Connection Manager has been designed to use 10-digit dialing when required.
In some areas, a call to another area code is still a local non-toll call (for example, calls in the San Francisco Bay area between the 415 and 510 area codes). If you are unsure whether the call will incur a charge, contact the local phone company.
