Changing your network password while using PS RAS Connection Manager
Note: The legacy RAS (dial-up networking) and PeopleSoft RAS Connection Manager (also known as PSRC or PSRCM) are in the process of being retired. To standardize dial-up access, the integrated PeopleSoft company is deploying iPass and VPN as the dial-up solution. For more information, see Eureka! document 54040 — iPass Frequently Asked Questions.
Some of you have experienced problems when you change your network password while logged into the PeopleSoft over RAS. The problem is that after you RAS in the next time, you have enter one password to log into your machine, and a different password when you RAS into the network. This situation often causes problems accessing certain network resources and necessitated a call to Technical Support Operations for a password reset.
To avoid these synchronization problems, check the box next to "Logon using Dialup..." on the Windows logon screen. Then RAS in as you used to. You may change your network password while RASed in this way. However, if you have changed locations since the last time you RASed in, the PS Connection entry in Dial-Up Networking may not be the correct one to use. To ENSURE that you properly change your network password, follow these steps:
Log on your local machine (don't check the box).
Launch PS RAS Connection Manager. Enter your current location information (area code and phone number) and network password and click Connect. You don't need to actually connect. You can just make sure that the number dials completely and then click Disconnect.
Then log out and back into the machine by click on the Start menu, then Sh ut Down... and then Close all programs and log on as a different user? (Windows NT 4) or Log off username (Windows 2000).
