How to request access to an existing network shared directory (folder)

Document number: 55136

Many departments have a network directory to share files within the department. Some network directories are locked down and access is granted only on a limited basis. To request access to an existing shared directory, open a NorthStar ticket. You MUST include the following information:

To open a NorthStar ticket, follow these instructions:

  1. Launch NorthStar and log in, if necessary. For more information about launching NorthStar, see Eureka! document 70001 — How to create a ticket in Northstar.

  2. On the left side of the screen, click on the Log Service Ticket link.

  3. On the contact screen, make sure the information is current and indicate how you would like to be contacted if there are any questions.

  4. Click Next.

  5. Choose Other Service Request and click Next.

  6. For "What type of problem are you having?" choose Network.

  7. Enter your Operating System and Connection information.

  8. In the Subject field, state that you need access to a network directory and enter the information described above (server name, directory name, level of access). If you run out of room, continue in the Description field.

  9. Click Finish.

Your Northstar ticket has been submitted. Some network directories are locked down and access is granted only on a limited basis. The owner of the network shared drive may refuse your request if only limited access is allowed to the directory.
