Adding Windows Explorer to the StartUp folder of the Start menu will cause Windows Explorer to be launched when you first start your machine. Make sure you add only a shortcut according to the instructions below.  If you add only a shortcut then you can easily remove the program from the StartUp folder if you no longer want it to launch every time you start up your machine. Caution: Adding programs to the StartUp folder can overburden memory resources. If you start getting errors, especially memory errors, or slow performance, you will need to remove the programs from the StartUp menu.  **If you have any doubts or questions contact Technical Support Operations for assistance before proceeding.**

Click on your operating system for instructions:

Windows NT4.

Windows 2000.

 

If you have problems after adding any item to the StartUp folder try shutting down completely, then restart holding down the { Shift} key as Windows starts.  If that allows you to start without problems follow the instructions in document 69010 — How to delete programs from the Start menu and remove the program from the StartUp folder.

Add Windows Explorer to the StartUp folder of your Windows NT4 machine.

1. Select Start menu, then Settings, then Taskbar.

2. Select the " Start Menu Programs" tab.

3. Select Add.  A " Create Shortcut" window will appear. In the box under " Command line:" type:
           C:\winnt\explorer.exe 

4. Click Next. A " Select Program Folder" window will appear.

5. Scroll down to the " StartUp" folder. Click once on the StartUp folder to highlight it.

6. Click Next. A " Select a Title for the Program" window will appear.

7. In the box under " Select a name for the shortcut" either accept the default name or type a name as you want the item to be shown on the Start menu.

8. Click Finish. You will be returned to the Taskbar Properties window.

9. Click OK to close the Taskbar Properties window.

 

With Windows Explorer in your StartUp folder it should launch every time you log into your machine.

4. Select Add.  A " Create Shortcut" window will appear. In the box under " Type the location of the item:" type:
           C:\winnt\explorer.exe
