How to reset the system clock

Document number: 69018

Your system time will usually be shown in the system tray of your taskbar (in its default location that would be lower right-hand corner of the screen). Keeping your system time set correctly is important for time stamping files, checking latest file versions and a variety of other purposes. You must be an "Administrator" or "Power User" for the machine to change date or time settings. If you are on the machine issued to you then you should have Administrator privileges and you should be able to make any necessary changes. If you have any questions or concerns, contact Technical Support Operations before you change the settings.

To change the system time, follow these steps:

  1. Double-click on the Time in the system tray at the lower right hand corner of your screen. A Date/Time properties window will open.
    • If there is no time showing in the system tray use Control Panel.
      1. Select Start menu, then Settings, then Control Panel.
      2. Double-click on the Date/Time icon to open it.
    • To change the date or time, Click on the Date & Time tab.
To change the time click in the box showing the time and enter the correct characters.  If you want to change the hour, click on the hour portion of the time, minutes, click on the minutes portion and so on.  To change the date click on the date on the calendar, or click on the down arrows for the month or year if you need to change those.

    • To change the time zone, Click on the Time Zone tab.
Click on the down arrow next to the existing time zone to display the drop down list of time zones. When you find the necessary time zone click once to select it.

  2. Click OK to close the Date/Time properties menu.

After you make the desired changes your system clock should be set correctly.
