How to change whether an application launches on start up.
If an application is in the Startup folder of your Start Menu that application will launch when you log into your machine. If you don't want an application to launch on start up then you can remove the application from the Startup folder. If you add an application to the Startup folder of the Start menu then the application to be launched when you log in. Make sure you add only a shortcut according to the instructions below. If you add only a shortcut then you can easily remove the program from the Startup folder if you no longer want the application to launch every time you start up your machine.
Caution: Adding programs to the Startup folder can overburden memory resources. If you start getting errors, especially memory errors, or slow performance, you will need to remove the programs from the Startup menu. **If you have any doubts or questions contact Technical Support Operations for assistance before proceeding.**
Click on your operating system for instructions:
Add an application to the Startup folder of your Windows 2000 machine.
Remove an application from the Startup folder of your Windows 2000 machine.
Adding an application shortcut to the Startup folder of your Start Programs menu will cause the application to open when you first login to your computer. If you have problems after adding any item to the Startup folder try shutting down completely, then restart holding down the { Shift} key as Windows starts. If that allows you to start without problems remove the item from the Startup folder.
Add an application to the Startup folder of your Windows 2000 machine.
Select Start menu, then Settings, then Taskbar & Start Menu ....
Select the " Start Menu Programs" tab.
Click on the Advanced tab.
Select Add. A " Create Shortcut" window will appear. In the box under " Type the location of the item:" type the path and application name or browse for it.
Click Next. A " Select Program Folder" window will appear.
Scroll down to the " Startup" folder. Click once on the Startup folder to highlight it.
Click Next. A " Select a Title for the Program" window will appear.
In the box under " Type a name for this shortcut" either accept the default name or type a name as you want the item to be shown on the Start menu.
Click Finish. You will be returned to the Taskbar Properties window.
Click OK to close the Taskbar Properties window.
With the application shortcut in your Startup folder the application should launch every time you log onto your machine.

Remove an application from the Startup folder of your Windows 2000 machine.
Note: The "Remove" button will allow you to remove only those programs and folders that are in your personal profile, not other start menu items. If you don't find the application you want to remove in your personal profile's Startup folder then you will have to use the Advanced features. For more information see document

Select Start menu, then Settings, then Taskbar & Start Menu ....
Select the " Start Menu Programs" tab.
Click on the Advanced tab.
Select Remove. A " Remove Shortcuts/folders" window will appear.
Scroll down to the " Startup" folder. Open the Startup folder.
Click once on the application you want to remove.
Click Remove. A "Confirm File Delete" window will open. Select Yes.
Click Close then OK to close the Taskbar Properties window.
With the application removed from your Startup folder it should no longer launch every time you log into your machine.
