ERROR: "Page cannot be displayed" while viewing slides in CTE class

Document number: 28904

Symptom:

The following error displays when a user attempts to view Enterprise Instructor slides in Centralized Training Environment (CTE): Page cannot be displayed .

Cause:

The Instructor slides reside on a server share in the shared area on CTE. When an instructor clicks the Instructor Support Materials icon on the desktop, a drive is mapped to this location and a window opens. Some of the instructor support materials stored on the instructor share are in ZIP format. When an instructor double clicks the *.ZIP file, it opens in the WinZip application. When each .HTML file is clicked, it is unzipped one at a time to a temp directory resulting in the slides not finding each other when referenced in the HTML tags.

Resolution:

To resolve this error, follow the steps below to extract the *.ZIP file to a local folder on the CTE Server’s desktop and open from the newly created local location.

  1. From the WinZip window, click the Extract icon.

  2. Click the Desktop icon.

  3. Place your cursor at the end of the Extract to: field (as shown below) and enter a folder name.

  4. If this step is not performed correctly, all of the instructor support files will be extracted to the desktop resulting in a significant amount of clutter.

This example is on a Tools 8.44 build so the directory used here is Tools.

  5. Click the Extract button.

  6. Open the newly created folder.

To verify that the problem has been resolved, follow the steps below:

  1. Open one of the main .HTML files, for example, 002Lesson_1_c01_0400.htm.

  2. Click the Next link in the lower right hand corner.

  3. If the next slide displays correctly, then the problem is resolved.

If you continue to experience this problem, open a NorthStar ticket or contact Technical Support Operations for assistance.
