Viewing the iPass connection logs

Document number: 54060

The iPass client captures connection data in activity logs. The logs indicate a if a connection attempt was successful, and if it was not successful, provides a brief description of the issue and a suggested resolution. (This is related to the iPass version 3.2 client.) To review your iPass client's logs, follow these steps:

  1. Click Help, Connection Logs.

  2. The log window displays a history of successful and attempted connections, in reverse order (with the newest entries listed at the top of the list).

If a connection was successful, the "Error Message" entry only shows "Connection Successful". However, if the error message is "Access denied," "No Dial Tone," or you cancelled the connection ("User cancelled connection"), the following line shows a "Recommendation" for corrective action to help you make a successful connection.

The information in the logs may also be useful if you need to call Technical Support Operations for assistance in resolving your connection issue. There is no export or copy-and-paste function within the logs. However, the folder c:\program piles\iPass\iPassConnect v3\log contains a connection.log file, which has the basic details of the information found on the connection log screen. (If needed, this log could be attached to a NorthStar ticket.)
